Making Sense of Adsense

Just what is adsense and how does it apply to me? If you are new to the internet marketing world, you must surely be wondering what everyone is talking about. Here we will attempt to give you the basic introduction to the world of ad sense.

On almost every web page that you visit you will see small ads that say in small type around them “ads by google”. This is what is known as “adsense.” These ads are placed by publishers, people like you and me with websites, as advertisements to bring people to their websites and hopefully keep them there to buy or opt-in etc. The website owner or publisher, again you or me, pay each time someone clicks on the ad and hence the name “pay-per-click” or “ppc”. You will see this name or abbreviation everywhere and you will soon wonder how it was that you did not know it! The website owner pays an amount that can vary considerably form a few cents to several dollars, depending on the popularity of the subject matter and the competition.

You may pay several dollars for a particular word or only a few cents if you are more specific. If you bid on say “automobiles” you may pay several dollars, but if you bid on “1965 Corvettes” you may pay less and have more targeted traffic; that is people that are looking for 1965 Corvettes. Keywords You can certainly buy as much traffic to your site as you want with a term like “cars” but that will not help you much if you are selling accessories for 1965 Corvettes. If you choose the shotgun method of advertising, you will get a lot of traffic but you will go broke sooner rather than later doing so.

So let’s say you are selling accessories for 1965 Corvettes or corvettes in general. You would design an ad “campaign” around the words “Corvettes”,”Corvette accessories”,”1965 Corvettes” etc. You see what I mean? In this way you will be drawing only the people that are looking for what you have to offer, not the ones who are just looking. This is what is known as “targeted traffic” and is what you are after if you have a site and do not want to pay exorbitantly for the people that come to your site.

Now you know what the term “adsense” means and what are its general implications and ways of using it. Go and make some ads of your own and see what you can do with the wonderful world of adsense.

Raising Your CTR With Google Adsense

Google Adsense is by far the best method on the internet to add revenue gaining functionality to any of your websites without the necessity of bulky image banners and referral programs. Every click garners you a few cents, so the amount of money you can make is directly proportionate to your traffic.

That is of course, assuming you have a good CTR, i.e Click Through Ratio. If you’re page garners 1000 hits a day, but your CTR is less than 1%, your hard work to drive traffic is not doing you much good.

Ad Appearance
There is the constant argument over whether it is better to have your Adsense ads brightly visible, standing out from your page, or to let them blend in, becoming part of your text. Surely, you don’t want your Adsense ads to disappear and not garner the attention of any of your visitors, but neither do you want them to be so obvious as to drive traffic away.

Experiment with the look and feel of your Adsense to get the best appearance for your page. If you have a certain color scheme, try to match that scheme. Don’t use bright pink on your slick, black page, lest you drive away traffic. Blend in your ads to the color scheme of your page and you’ll present a cleaner, more honest appearing set of ads.

Ad Format
Google Adsense offers numerous formats for your ads. Many people place large chunks of full texted ads on their sidebars or beneath their articles, but if this isn’t working for you, consider changing your approach. Alter you Adsense to best match the way most internet browsers read.

Wider formats tend to do better than the narrow, long Adsense formats simply because the reader doesn’t have to read down the page as often. Consider a 728 x 90 leader board of simple one line text ads placed beneath your header. They blend in and if carefully placed beneath your navigation bars, will gain even more clicks.

Ad Placement
You want your Adsense ads placed where your visitors will most likely see them. If you place an Adsense box at the bottom of your sidebar, most visitors will likely fail to notice them. Google has created a ‘heat map’, a research project in which they gathered information from numerous websites and the most effective placement of ads. Often, it is the top of the page, above your content that Adsense performs best in. Also, for those running articles, directly before and after your article will often garner additional clicks.

There are dozens of ways to clean up your site and enhance your Adsense to raise your CTR. Try curbing your content to match higher paying keywords in more interesting topics, or finding the most popular and effective content areas of your page and preceding them with Adsense ads. Google Adsense has proven itself time and time again as one of the best options for making money with your website. Make sure you are using it to the fullest.

How To Make Money Online - Some Basic Guidelines

Is it still possible to make a good income with Google Adsense? After all, there was a report circulating this past fall that said Adsense was dead.

Adsense took a beating a short time ago when Google made some changes. But it is still possible to make some extra money with a Web site or two. It is even possible to make a good living with it.

What You Need

You need a domain name, a hosting account, and a niche topic. Preferably the niche is one that you know something about. That makes it easier to fill it with content.

If you want to make a good income with one or two Web sites then good content is a must. Your goal is to create a site that attracts people and keeps them coming back.

There are sites on the Internet, created by people just like you that are getting thousands of visitors a day. The content is written by the site owner who cares about the subject. They are passionate about the topic and write from their heart.

These sites have grown in popularity simply by word-of-mouth and maybe some simple search engine optimization tactics. Good content will get noticed, although optimizing for the search engines helps.

Getting Traffic to Your New Site

Before your site can become popular through word-of-mouth you need to get the first visitors to your site. How do you let people know about your site?

Free tactics include posting in forums or blogs and putting your URL in the signature, posting on Answers.Yahoo.com and again putting your URL in the signature, and writing articles and submitting them to article directories. These are all free, and they work very well.

Here’s a hint: Write an article each week for each site. Do that consistently and you can’t help but get traffic. It’s a great way to get backlinks, too, which is very important in getting ranked high in the search engines.

For further education (and for examples) visit StevePavlina.com and JackHumphrey.com/fridaytrafficreport. These are two sites that get thousands of visitors a day. They are using the blogging software put out by WordPress, which is free.

Blogs are a simple way to build a Web site. Anyone can start one, and then tweak it as they become more experienced. Jack’s site didn’t start out looking that cool. He’s done some major changes to it in the last year.

Steve’s site looks very plain, but that doesn’t bother the millions of people who regularly visit his site. They are coming for the content.

That simple-looking site is earning Steve several thousand dollars a day in Adsense, affiliate products and donations. Yes, people actually donate to sites that offer them good content for free. Steve uses a WordPress plug in for collecting donations from visitors who want to give him money as a way of saying “thank you.”

Can You Make More Money Through Google Adsense?

Tired of seeing clicks that are paying your $0.05? There is something you can do about it.

The biggest outcry for pretty well all adsense publishers is most often about low paying click values. If you’re wondering why Google is only paying you $0.05 a click, you should not need to look much further than the content on your web page. Remember, your revenue is a part of the amount advertisers are willing to pay for respective keywords. The money they are willing to pay is based strictly on the amount they feel confident to earn from the sale of their product. For example, topics such as prom dresses, are more likely to receive $0.05 clicks than for a topic like life insurance. The reason is simple: the price of the products associated with those keywords dictate the amount advertisers will pay. The profits on car insurance can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a month, depending on the agreement. One sale could bring the firm several tens of thousands of dollars over the life of the agreement. How much profit is in prom dresses?

Another tip to consider is that if you focus on keywords that involve the terms “cheap”, “free”, or “inexpensive” products, its highly unlikely the ads that appear will furnish you with the best paying ads. Remember, if the advertiser is selling an itemrespective that is “cheap”, “free”, or “inexpensive” its unlikely they are bidding very highly on their keywords. So, what options are left for you?

While I will touch on how the layout of your site can impact your adsense revenue, lets look at your content - namely what we will call your money pages. So what exactly are your money pages?

In the easiest of terms, your money pages are those where you believe your hopes for higher paying ads are greatly improved over other pages. So while you may focus your traffic generating strategy on long tail keywords for example, its your money pages where you aim to either make a sale, or, get the visitor to click on an ad. What topics are related to your main topic that target higher paying products? A bit of research and you can easily find products that an advertiser will pay more for.

If your site is on cooking, what products do you use to cook with? Is there some type of gizmo you use to help prepare your food? Cutlery, bakeware and cookware all payout larger amounts than items found in a recipe for cheesecake.

What if your site is about newborn babies? Every mom and dad wants to make sure that they are providing the proper care for their new additions. How they made sure their financial plan has been adjusted to provide insurance coverage for the family? What about college savings? Retirement funds? What about clothes?

If your site is on wedding favors, look into a couple of articles covering higher end wedding favors. While most wedding favor sites cover the topic of shoddy wedding favors, what about the demographic who isnt concerned about the cost of their wedding? Is there not a certain type of wedding favor for the higher end of income earners that you could speak to? While the number of clicks may be lower, their payout will more than make up for it.

Think about the advertisers when thinking about your money pages. Is there an item that they sell for a higher dollar value that your visitors may be interested in?

If you are getting only $0.05 a click, more most often than not, its your content.

3 Things You Should Never Do with Your AdSense Account

Starting as a new AdSense publisher would not be easy, there are lots of things you should be aware of, here are three most important things that you should never do with your AdSense account:

1. Signing to AdSense without fully understanding Google AdSense’s Terms Of Services agreement

Unlike many other agreements you sign while browsing the Internet, you simply have no other option but to read and understand AdSense’s Terms of Service or risk receiving a ban. As it usually happens after a few months, you risk losing hundreds of hours of your work (as well as thousands of dollars paid for promotion and SEO) simply because you haven’t read the agreement carefully enough.

Why is that? The common myth is that every webpage can display AdSense ads. That’s not true. First, there are several categories of websites that Google forbids to take part in the AdSense program. Some of the categories are obvious - racist websites, those promoting illicit drugs or pirate software - but some are not. For example those advertising beer or hard alcohol-based products are also prohibited, so forget about opening an AdSense site about Russian vodka.

Another thing is that the AdSense’s Terms of Service describes several specific activities you must not perform on your website if you are to avoid banning. Among others they include such things as excessive use of keywords, lack or minimal content on your site or adding misleading labels of Google ads. For example Google may ban you even for using “Click the ads” phrase!

The bottom line: Without learning what is and what isn’t a viable AdSense website, you can’t really start your business. Terms of Service agreement sets strict boundaries you have to keep yourself within in order to do business with Google. If you have any doubts about the rules, contact Google and ask them what they think about your problems. You keep to their rules AS THEY UNDERSTAND THEM or you’re out of business within hours.

2. Asking your friends or relatives to click on your ads

Surprisingly there are still many people who think that they can make money on AdSense by asking their friends or relatives to click on their ads. This scheme is both ineffective and very short-sighted, but nevertheless there are people who think they can do business this way.

The problem is that no one can become a successful AdSense businessman by using this method to create the artificial clicks. First, there are practical reasons: in order to make this scheme work, you must have at least two thousand clicks a month. What is more, they must come from different computers and different people! There is no way you can do that - getting thousands of people to click on your ads in any other way than by creating a decent website and/or a SEO campaign is simply not cost-effective.

Then, as such practices are expressly forbidden by Google, asking anyone to click on your ads increases the risk of banning you from AdSense. If the system detects multiple clicks from a single source, it raises the alarm and this usually ends in banning the website in question. Even if you ask your friends are relatives to use different computers or IP numbers, it is next to impossible that everyone will remember about it all the time. And you would need A LOT of people to make it worth more than an additional dollar or two a month (see above).

In short, any using method of creating artificial clicks - ie. those made by anyone but people who visited your website and were really interested in the ads - is pointless. It won’t pay off and sooner or later will bring you a ban.

3. Clicking on your own ads

Never click on your own ads. Never! This rule seems to be obvious, but surprisingly this is one of the most common mistakes done by the beginning AdSense website owners. Clicking on the ads you have on your own site is the quickest way to get irreversibly banned from AdSense - sometimes even a single click is enough to alert the system. What’s worse, you will have nothing for you defense - clicking on one’s own ads is expressly forbidden by the AdSense’s Terms of Service.

At times, clicking on your own ads may be tempting - but this is both immoral and ineffective. In short, it is not worth your time but may get you deeeeep in trouble.

AdSense Is Making Me Rich

I want to talk to you about the power of Google AdSense and how you can use it to generate not hundreds, not thousands, but tens of thousands of dollars from your website. I have only been using AdSense for a few months, but already I am earning thousands and thousands every single week just from AdSense. I want to share with you right now some secrets on how I do that.

One of the best secrets that I have learned about AdSense is that you can get a lot of revenue if you place AdSense in your links pages. Almost everybody now has a links page or collection of links on their website for other resources. If you have a categorized links directory or a few links pages grouped together this is even better. What AdSense can then do is determine exactly which ads to show on which page.

Since youre already going to be losing traffic from those links anyway, why not get paid to actually drive people to other websites! Thats one of the key secrets: include AdSense on your links pages.

Another great secret is to use your newsletter or mailing list to generate AdSense revenue. They dont allow you to send anything out by email that includes AdSense, but what you can do is you can create a newsletter that is online. You would send an email and, rather than including the newsletter within that email, you would send people to a link. People will land on that link and it includes your newsletter in html format along with relevant AdSense ads.

This also builds up over time. You can have multiple issues of the newsletter back-dated, all of which are accessible and being read by your visitors and all that include AdSense ads. This is a great way, and a very quick way, to monetize your newsletter. If you create a newsletter around a specific theme every single time you email it out, youll start to see that the ads become relevant each time and youll get more and more people clicking on them.

Another secret for AdSense is to create the text ads with the same background as your sites page. If you do this they blend into your site much more effectively. If you use frameless ads, where the color of the frame is the same as your website, this will work even better.

The main secret that I found in creating an AdSense empire is to do one thing every day which will actually improve your AdSense earnings. Whether you add more content, get more key phrases, send another newsletter or read more information about AdSense; do one thing each day which earns you more!

Don’t Get Sucked in By the AdSense Hype

When we began updating our company’s Internet marketing strategy, we figured - based on all the hype, that we should consider integrating Google’s AdSense contextual advertising into it. After all we’ve got a lot of original content, some of which has been getting a fair amount or traffic since 1999. Would AdSense help us further monitize that?

We are business coaches and consultants with over a century of experience helping business owners redesign their companies for the future. Our web site was established to help us do that and it has been advertiser supported since it was launched in 1999.

What we heard about AdSense made it sound like the perfect solution for us. The ads displayed are supposed to be relevant to the content on the page. We swap in the code - they do the rest, sell the ads, collect the money and send us a check. What could be better than that?

There was a catch however. In order to learn about AdSense, more than the bare bones explanation available on Google, we had to do online research, which connected us to the AdSense Internet marketers selling every sort of secret process and system anyone could imagine. The results were overwhelming.

Once I clicked on a link for more information - it all goes back to that single click, I was bombarded by the “make a fortune”, “generate massive traffic”, “explode your AdSense revenue”, “capture high paying keywords”, and the rest of the “unlimited profit from AdSense” brigade. What a bunch of baloney!

What I found out, with that first click, was if you request information from one of the AdSense “make a fortune” people, you end up getting email from them 24/7/365 and from all of their joint venture partners as well. If the get out the vote people were as effective as these marketers we’d have a 90% turnout at the polls. But I digress.

During the six months or so that we went through this I spoke to numerous business coaches and others who have been seduced by the hype and wasted their time optimizing their web sites for Google’s AdSense, which only served to get people they wanted to do business with to leave them for their competitors. They were optimizing their web sites so that people who would otherwise pay them hundreds or thousands of dollars in fees, would click on a well placed AdSense link and they’d receive thirty cents instead.

Last night, when I was thinking about this article, I received another seductive AdSense guru’s email. I found myself rethinking what we are doing - that is working very well than you very much, listening and watching the video he sent and saying to myself, “Hey, it’s only a hundred and thirty seven bucks, what if it works?”

Fortunately the ball game came on before I could buy it, which would have resulted in me losing my focus on what’s already working. I deleted the email and put this guy on my junk mail filter’s list.

So be smart, don’t you get on the “make a fortune with AdSense” bandwagon. You won’t make a fortune and you’ll undermine everything else you’re doing.

I am not saying that AdSense is a bad thing. We now have AdSense code on 3,000 pages of stories, articles, and resources for business owners and professionals - it’s free money from people we are never going to do business with anyway. But it is not our focus. If you visit our web site you’ll see how we integrate it, hopefully making it attractive to the people who are not our ideal prospects.

We created and continually develop our web site with the primary objective of connecting with people who’ll contact us about our services. Everything we do is to cast our net in a wider and wider circle to connect with people who have never heard of us, so they’ll contact us when they are ready to buy our services.

If, after seeing what we’re offering, they don’t want to contact us - well they’re going to leave and go somewhere else. What AdSense does is create a logical place for them to go next, and we get paid for it.

It’s like getting all the people who don’t buy from us to pay us. Now that’s profit! The better job we do with all the search engine stuff the more relevant the AdSense adds are so not only do the right people (potentially) visit our web site to do business with us AND the more likely the other are to leave via an AdSense ad when they don’t think we have what they are looking for. Last month we had a click through rate of 8.53%. We’d have been nuts to overlook AdSense.

Just don’t be seduced down the hype-filled path toward disillusionment. Focus your efforts on building your business, not the business of the Internet marketers who want to sell you their so-called “insider secrets”.

When you do sign up for AdSense and this is a must, use it wisely - to get paid by the people who will never be your customers anyway. You won’t make a zillion dollars in AdSense riches like the hucksters say you will, but that would never have happened anyway.

However, your total revenues will grow as your Internet marketing strategy becomes more effective.

And you’ll have put a turnstile on the door many of your non-prospects will be using when they leave your site forever. Those people you were never going to meet or do business with will be dropping those nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars in your pocket as they leave. A perfect strategy!

5 Great Tactics To Explode Your Adsense Earnings

Adsense is a great way for many webmasters to monetize their websites. There are two kinds of earnings scenarios.

One is webmasters who are either losing money or having a great deal of difficulty to make whatever little money from Adsense. Another is “geniuses” who are enjoying hundreds of dollars a day from their ads.

What makes these webmasters different from the other kind is that they are different and they think out of the box.

The ones who have been there and done it have useful tactics to share with those venturing into the field. These tactics have proven its worth and will continue to do so.

Here are the 5 proven tactics on how best to increase your Adsense earnings.

1. Focus on only one Adsense format. The one format that worked well for the majority is the Large Rectangle (336X280). This same format has proven to result in higher click-through rates. So why only choose this format? Basically because the ads blends in like normal web links, and people, being used to clicking on them, click on them. They may or may not know they are clicking on your Adsense but as long as there are clicks, then it will all be for your advantage.

2. Create your own custom Adsense palette. Choose a color that will match the background of your site. If your site has a white background, use white as the color of your ad border and background. The idea to match the colors so that the Adsense looks like it is part of the web pages. Again, this will result to more clicks from people visiting your site.

3. Remove the Adsense from the bottom pages of your site and put them at the top. Do not try to hide them. Make them obvious to people. You will be surprised how the difference between Adsense locations can make when you see your earnings.

4. Maintain links to relevant websites. If you think some sites are better off, then put your ads there and try to maintain and manage them. If there is already many other Adsense ads put into that certain site, put yours above all of them. That way visitor will see your ads first upon browsing into that site.

5. Try to automate the insertion of your Adsense code into the webpages using SSI (or server side included). Ask your web administrator if your server supports SSI or not. How do you do it? Just save your Adsense code in a text file, and upload it to the root directory of the web server. Then using SSI, call the code on other pages. This tip is a time saver especially for those who are using automatic page generators to generate pages on their website.

These are some of the Adsense tactics that have worked well for some who want to generate hundreds and even thousands on their websites. It is important to know though that ads are displayed because it fits the interest of the people viewing them. So focusing on a specific topic should be your primary purpose because the displays will be especially targeted on a topic that persons will be viewing already.

Take note there is a lot of competition out there. So it is best to think of making a good ad that will be somewhat different and unique than the ones already done. Every clickthrough that visitors make is a point for you so make every click count by making your Adsense something that people will definitely click on.

Tips given by those who have boosted their earnings are just guidelines they want to share with others. If they have somehow worked wonders to some, maybe it can work wonders for you too. Try them out into your ads and see the result it will bring.

If others have done it, there is nothing wrong trying it out for yourself.

Leverage Other People’s Content To Boost Your Adsense Cash

Adsense is either causing you to lose or win in the affiliate marketing industry now. And if you are in a losing rather than winning in the affiliate program.

Maybe it is about time to consider going into the Adsense marketing and start earning some real cash.

You do not have to look for relevant ads yourselves as Google search engine will be doing the searching for you. It will match the ads with the content on the pages.

You do not have to spend time in choosing different kind of ads for different pages. And no codes to mess around for different affiliate programs.

You will just need to focus on providing good and quality content, as the search engines will be the ones finding the best ads in which to put your pages on.

You are still allowed to add Adsense ads even if you already have affiliate links on your site. It is prohibited, however, to imitate the look and feel of the Google ads for your affiliate links.

You can filter up to 200 URLs allowing you to block the sites that do not meet your guidelines. You can also block competitors. Though it is unavoidable that Adsense may be competing for some space on web sites that all other revenues are sharing.

Owners of small sites can now instantly have relevant text ads that appeal to your visitors appear into their pages. If you own many sites, you only need to apply once. It makes up for having to apply to many affiliate programs.

The only way to know how much you are already earning is to try and see. If you want out, all you have to do is remove the code from your site.

The payment rates can vary extremely. The Adsense payment you will be receiving per click depends on how much advertisers are paying per click to advertise with the use of the AdWords.

Advertisers can pay as little as 5 cents and as high as $10-12, sometimes even more than that too. You are earning a share of that money generated.

If your Adsense results remain inactive, you can try and build simple and uncluttered pages so that the ads can catch the visitor’s eyes more. Sometimes, it is better to be unique than following the crowd.

You also have the option to have your ads displayed only on a certain site or sites. You can allow them to be displayed on a large network of sites. The choice would be depending on what you think will work best for your advantage.

To get an idea if some Adsense ads you see on the search engines have your pages, try to find web pages that have similar material to the content you are planning to create and look up their Adsense ads.

It is important to note that you cannot choose certain topics only. If you do this, search engines will not place Adsense ads on your site and you will be missing out a great opportunity in making hundreds and even thousands of dollars cash.

It is still wise to model after other people’s Adsense site. Just think about it as doing you a favor by not having to work too hard to know what content to have.

Topic to be avoided includes gambling, firearms, ammunition, tobacco or drugs. If you are being offered more cash in exchange of doing Adsense with these kinds, it is just like signing your own termination paper.

With all these Adsense information that people need in your hands already, all you have to do is turn them as your profits. It all boils down to a gain and gain situation both for the content site owners and the webmasters or publishers.

Start leveraging other people’s content and start earning some extra cash.

Making Sense Of Google Adsense!

Brian is a webmaster. Well, he likes to think he is anyway. All you have to do is have a website up, right? His website is about contact lenses. He has some experience with them and what he doesn’t know, he learns. He has spent the last several days trying to figure out a way to make money on his website. He has some traffic coming to the site already and is working on building that. But, he has heard of a program that can give him additional profit by doing very little. And, it was something offered by Google which means it has to be good, right?

What Brian doesn’t know is that Google Adsense is a great way to make additional income to his website by doing next to nothing really. The program is run by Google, a well known (probably the best) search engine on the internet. What it does is very simple. For Brian, it worked like this. Since his website was about contact lenses, Google Adsense would place ads on his website that were related to contact lenses. It will do this for anyone, on virtually any topic out there. Any time a visitor comes to your website and visits a sponsor (the ads that Google place there) you get a small cut in the profits.

Understanding Google Adsense

Once you design a website, you will contact the Google Adsense program. They will request information about your website and then give you a code to use. You insert the code as directed on your website and almost magically ads will appear on your website that are very close to or right on your subject matter. It works simply.

Google charges the individuals that place the ad a certain amount. When someone clicks on the ad, visits the website and/or makes a purchase, the Google Adsense program credits your account with part of the fee. The benefit of this is that it is all automatic. You don’t have to track down individuals to pay for their ad space nor do you need to worry about having ads there. Some ads are worth far more than others and you can even research this and develop websites around these high paying ads.

Google Adsense is quite a straightforward and simple program. Most of the time, individuals use this type of advertising as a supplement to their current income stream. For example, they may be using affiliate programs, selling their own product or otherwise promoting something. Using these ads to supplement a profit stream into the website is the ideal way to go.

If you build up your website to attract a good amount of visitors to it, then you may be able to make a solid income from Google Adsense in itself. To do this, you will need to market your website to gain enough traffic to it so that those individuals will click on the Ads by Google and bring you some profits.

The Pros And Cons

This advertising program is used by many, many people. Webmasters love how simple the program is to use. If this is the only type of marketing you plan to do, though, you’ll need to work hard to benefit from it. You’ll need to have targeted traffic which is individuals that actually will be interested in the ads that Google is providing. You will also need to make sure to get as many individuals to your website as possible. In most cases, you get only pennies for clicks. Some may pay several dollars if you are very lucky.
